About Us

Freestyle Performance is the brain child of my late friend and business partner Dan Welch. Dan believed passionately that in order to achieve a state of superior conditioning you should train the body how it has evolved to move, as opposed to just using static gym machines that usually lock your body into one plane of movement. Vern Gambetta (American Strength and Conditioning Coach) states, “Functional training employs an integrated (as opposed to isolated) approach. It involves movement of multiple joints through multiple planes”.

The large Gym chains would also have us believe that in order to attain a good physique and to be healthy we would first need to join their Gym, however a great deal of conditioning can be done without ever setting foot inside one. I believe that the ability to utilise Gym facilities should be seen as one element of training not the whole picture. As you browse this site you will see exercises done with everything from Bodyweight to Fence posts and used Tractor tyres. In their attempt to create the latest “must do” exercise many professionals also forget that training should also be FUN! If an athlete turns up looking forward to their session I guarantee that it will be more successful.

Freestyle Performance is committed to bringing you information and ideas that will enhance your Functional training, as well as supplying you or your team with resources and coaching support.

“There are those of us who train and there are those of us who exercise. Those who train are in the pursuit of training excellence, we are hungry for information and we try new things. Those who exercise are happy with their simple programme design, not wanting to explore themselves or their capabilities”. (Dan Welch)
